Happy birthday to my one and only, Idris. ❤️

I write these messages because when I am long gone, I need you to know and understand how much I love you. Watching you grow tall and grow up is the singular most important accomplishment in my life.

I grew up without a Father so, when I found out you were on the way, I was nervous but elated. You have given me so many reasons to keep pushing forward.

Just know, everything that I do in these moments are for you. I love you beyond anything you or I could comprehend.

You are the reason for the season and I am so proud of who you are becoming.

I look back at all of our memories and I pray that you and I will always be in sync.

I love you to every galaxy, all of the heavens, and back.

-DAD.

The bigger your biceps, the better your erections. My colleagues at Baylor and I published a paper on this in a peer-reviewed journal, and it shows a relationship. Message me and I’ll send it to you.

Why open with that line? To get your attention. Biology gives you factors you can control, and behavior gives you the rest. For aging muscle there are two solutions: build muscle mass and improve muscle quality. Quality is the fat that infiltrates the tissue. Good muscle looks like a filet, and fat-marbled muscle looks like wagyu. Mass without quality is insignificant.

The concept I care about now is musclespan. The greater your strength reserve, the greater your metabolic health and your functional independence. Next year at Biohack Austin, I expect you to show up jacked.

Today is Election Day and every vote counts. Democracy doesn’t work as well as it should because voter turnout is not as high as it should be. Voter apathy means that deep-pocketed and influential forces can wield more influence within the system. Not participating makes this dynamic worse. Our system is far from perfect, but it will be greatly improved if we had 100% voter turnout. For anyone who feels that their needs or ideals are not met within the system, the only choice is to get more involved, because though it may work slowly and not deliver everything one wants, democracy is the mechanism to shape the systems of our society. If you need help voting, visit VOTE.org for resources to ensure your voice is heard in this important election.
