Thank you! I witness so many sharing experiences of what it’s “really” like…all while I’m looking at them going, you’ve never went further than 25 miles outside of town, let alone another country. What are you helping me understand?!?!?

I’m “lucky” to be broke enough in CA I have medi cal and when I was diagnosed with cancer after an emergency surgery, I was able to get treatment right away. Fast tracked. So I don’t wanna hear this propaganda anymore that we can’t do universal healthcare. We totally can, but our oligarchy prefers to spend that money on themselves via the military industrial complex, bank bailouts, corporate bailouts, tax cuts for the corporations, etc. Enough!

So many people have died of weirdly preventable things and more people die from untreated contagious illness.

💯 agree with you! Australian native in the US here. I know both sides well. I can’t stand comments like the above - they are uneducated here-say driven by political bias.

I moved here from Australia. This is not entirely true. Urgent matters are taken care of urgently. Elective surgeries usually have waitlists similar to what we experience here trying to get in touch see a doctor… A few months. My dad had cancer. It was addressed immediately. His total bill for everything including multiple surgeries was $200. Universal Healthcare should be table stakes for anyone living in a civilized country.

As a Brit the NHS was great until we started privatizing selling off to the states and other private sectors. Universal Healthcare is amazing until you have a government who is selling it off, it benefits everyone who needs it. I lived in the states for 15 years and i never understood how people voted against their health to pay for healthcare.

Universal healthcare is such a difficult thing to achieve that only 32 out of the 33 established countries have seemed to figure it out. I’m stumped here… 🤔

Also: American health insurance killed my mom. After five years of remission - a date which has no basis in science - health insurance decided they would no longer pay for my mom’s cancer screenings. As a result she couldn’t pay for them and by the time they discovered her cancer had returned, it was stage 4 and terminal.
