BREAKING: Voting machines across Westchester County, New York, are having trouble accepting paper ballots on Election Day, prompting officials to implement emergency procedures. The county's Board of Elections says affected ballots are being placed in secure, monitored emergency bags and will still be counted as officials work to resolve the issue. Republican Rep. Mike Lawler says the problem appears to involve ballot thickness and machine formatting, while the New York State Board of Elections says the issue stemmed from a "programming" mishap. New York Attorney General Letitia James says her office is monitoring the situation and reassured voters that their ballots will count. US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed celebrated his victory by taking on Aipac and the special interests that poured millions into trying to defeat him. Addressing JD Vance, who is expected to swear him into the Senate in January, El-Sayed joked about the prospect of being called Senator. He jokingly thanked Aipac for spending $42 million against his campaign, saying it had given him the opportunity to beat the lobby twice. El-Sayed also delivered a strong message on Palestinian rights, saying that believing Palestinian children deserve to grow up without being killed by US tax dollars is not hate, but love. He called for American tax money to fund schools, healthcare and infrastructure at home rather than apartheid, genocide and war. He also took a shot at the political establishment, saying, "To the super PACs and special interests who tried to beat us, we are coming for your system of politics."
The US military carried out limited strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday, three US officials told CNN, characterizing the action as defensive in nature and meant to protect US assets in the region. One official said the US attack came in response to Iran firing at a US aircraft. It does not appear to be the kind of major combat operation that officials have been contemplating, and the Wall Street Journal, which first revealed the operation, reported that other such strikes have been carried out previously in secret. "This was a defensive measure for Iranians using surface to air missiles against US assets," another US official said. Read more at the link in our bio. 📸: Nicolas Economou/Reuters
