Linköping University professor Peter Jonsson is set to have his work presented in two weeks’ time at one of the most prestigious conferences in theoretical computer science. As of Monday, much of that work is “dead,” he says, after AI showed that a 27-year-old hypothesis underpinning it is wrong. Both OpenAI and Anthropic claimed this week to have disproved the exponential time hypothesis (ETH). Vast swaths of theoretical computer science research on complexity and algorithm design have been built on the premise that the effort it takes to solve certain problems increases exponentially with the size of the problem. Jonsson expects his predicament will be “very common” at the IEEE Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science, where his work will be presented by one of his coauthors. “People will start the talks: ‘ETH is false, half of my paper does not work,’” he says. It’s a vexing problem, Jonsson says, “but at the same time, we learn a lot from it. And this is what science is about.” Researchers haven’t independently verified, let alone had time to fully understand, the AI-produced proofs, which both firms have published on GitHub in both natural language and its machine-checkable Lean format. OpenAI has asked the UC Santa Barbara computer scientists who originally proposed the hypothesis, plus an MIT academic who has refuted a version of ETH, to rally researchers to unpack the proofs. So far, this effort includes a Google form asking for volunteers and feedback, and a commitment from OpenAI to fund a conference on the topic. Tap the 🔗 in bio to read the full story.
The rich almost never sell what they own, and that one habit keeps them rich for generations. 💰♟️ When most people need cash, they cash out. Sell, pay the tax, spend what’s left. The wealthy do the opposite. Instead, they borrow against their assets. Their stocks, property and company shares stay invested and keep growing, while loans against them pay for their lifestyle. In many countries, borrowed money isn’t treated as income, so it isn’t taxed the way a salary or a sale is. Some keep repeating this for decades. The contrast is brutal. A worker pays tax on every paycheck before seeing a cent. Someone with enough assets can live on borrowed money while their wealth keeps compounding untouched. It carries real risk, and it only works once you own assets worth borrowing against, but that’s the game most people are never taught. Learn how money really moves, then build a life where your assets work harder than you ever have to. My MAGA congressman doesn’t want to upset his corporate donors and raise the minimum wage. It is shameful that we haven’t raised the federal minimum wage since I was making $7.25 at McDonald’s 15 years ago. It is morally wrong that millions of people in this country work 40+ hours a week, sometimes significantly more, and still can’t afford basic living expenses. Everyone deserves a living wage. Join the fight. Send this to someone who should vote.

What if we’ve been worrying about the wrong fat all along? Remember when butter was suddenly back in style and everyone started warning us about seed oils? I certainly do. I watched patients switch from vegetable oils to butter, convinced they were making a healthier choice. But then a Harvard-led study published in 2025 followed more than 221,000 adults for up to 33 years. And the findings tell a very different story. The researchers found that people who consumed more butter had a higher risk of premature death, while those who consumed more plant-based oils had a lower risk. Replacing even a small amount of butter each day with plant-based oils was associated with a meaningful difference in long-term health. Swipe through, and pay special attention to slide 6. It’s the kind of information I wish more people knew before changing what’s in their kitchens. And please, don’t think this means you can never enjoy butter again. I certainly wouldn’t tell you that! It’s about what you choose most often, not what you eat occasionally. To make this easier, I created a free guide that shows you which oils work best for cooking, how to bake without butter, and 7 delicious recipes that traditionally use butter, including creamy mashed potatoes and lemon cake. 👉 Comment SWAP and I’ll send it to you! And if you enjoy learning about your health this way, I’d love to welcome you into my FREE Thrive After 40 community. It’s where I break down the health topics that matter after 40, answer your general health questions, and share practical, evidence-based ways to stay healthy and manage your weight if that’s your goal.
