🎙PAR-LEZ ARTISTES 🎙
Portrait of D La Her, temporary resident artist at 59 Rivoli, who tells us about her artistic world.
@dlaher_"I explore the absurdity of individual life in urban environments. My figures fade into the crowd, as if absorbed by the city, its rhythm, and its immensity.
My work is influenced by Sartre, American realism, as well as my roots in South Korea, a nation that has undergone rapid economic transformations. These changes have created a complex landscape of identity, marked by significant cultural dislocation.
To me, the human figure is an ephemeral and fragile trace, always on the verge of disappearing into the indifferent architectural immensity of the city. My characters are suspended between infinite potentiality and imminent dissolution.
There is also a play with scale and distance in my pictorial work. Up close, the empty faces invite introspection, but from afar, those same figures dissolve into the urban landscape. This reflects the duality of city life: we are visible, yet invisible. We are present, yet the city continues, indifferent. It is this tension—between the individual and the city, between the self and others—that I try to apprehend.
Finally, there are my performances. Here, I take this exploration even further. I trace the shadows of spectators, creating a collective drawing. Each person contributes a part of themselves, but in the end, everyone blends into the mass of silhouettes."
