A California startup is developing a 7-foot chainsaw-wielding centaur robot designed to enter places too dangerous for humans. 🤖🪚 Called Threehalves, the robot is being developed by Satyress Robotics in Auburn, California. It combines a humanoid upper body with four legs for stability on rough terrain. The goal is to help workers operate safely in hazardous environments, including wildfire zones, collapsed buildings, and dangerous forestry sites. A human operator would control the robot using joystick-style controls. Its modular arms are designed to accept interchangeable tools such as chainsaws, drills, and screwdrivers, allowing skilled workers to perform dangerous jobs from a safer location. Even its unusual appearance serves a purpose. Cameras inside its horns are intended to help operators track its limbs and tools, while mechanical failsafes are designed to lock its joints if the robot loses air pressure or motor control. The project is still in the prototype stage, with no confirmed commercial release date. Its creator, Beau Gaston, says the goal is to protect workers from dangerous conditions rather than replace them. Be honest, if this thing walked out of the smoke to rescue you, would you feel relieved or terrified? 💀 Follow @longliveai for more AI, robotics, and future technology updates. I’m deeply saddened about this news. This photo was taken when we played together in Tokyo this past September. He wasn’t looking very well and actually performed his set while seated, but it was incredible, 100% pure “Magic” set. It breaks my heart that this became the final moment with him. As everybody knows, he was the true originator who shaped the blueprint of techno - a format that has since become one of the biggest club music genres in the world. Without him, techno simply wouldn’t exist. When I first started producing, his music had a profound influence on me. I studied his track structures and tones inside out, listening to each of his songs thousands of times. Once I established myself as a professional artist, I had the privilege of playing alongside him around the world as his fellow @randsrecords label mate. We shared stages across Europe - in countries like Belgium and Spain - at DEMF in Detroit, and, of course, many times here in Japan. I first met him back in ’94 in Gent Belgium, when I was invited to a house party at a home of an R&S staff. I remember we were eating a local rabbit stew cooked in Trappist beer when he suddenly asked for ice cream. He was a wonderful mentor who was usually quiet and of few words, but always full of humor whenever he spoke. Your legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace, Juan Atkins.
