Even though the plane was “going to crash” 76 times (didn’t) and we were going to be late for every tour/dinner (weren’t) and we had no outfits (so many outfits) and I was going to be “no fun” (impossible)…….we STILL managed to have the best vacation/birthday/anniversary ever (against all odds)!

But in all seriousness, it was great to see @nycmayor again, meet @aoc for the first time, and thank Gov. @govkathyhochul for passing MAiD in New York State. When my husband was dying of terminal cancer in 2022, he wished he had the bodily autonomy to end his life on his terms instead of suffering from immense pain every single day while his body slowly starved him to death. It was so insane to us that right across the river, just a few miles away, NJ allowed terminally ill patients to end their lives on their own terms while in New York—the state Rob was born, raised, lived, and died in—that option wasn’t available to him. It was the ultimate betrayal.

Earlier this year, Hochul signed off on legislation that offers this option to terminally ill New Yorkers, and it finally went into law a few months ago. While Rob and I both wished he was able to do this when he was living out his final months, I’m glad other people in Rob’s situation will have access to more control over the end of their lives. We understand it is cruel to force our household pets to suffer from painful terminal illnesses. I’m glad this common sense is being extended to terminally ill human beings who can decide for themselves how they want to go out when fate has already made the ultimate decision for them.

(And I’m sure Rob would be glad that his fellow WNYer did all of this…on top of finally getting the congestion pricing program up and running, so thanks for that too!)

Go out and vote (for Dems), everyone.
