A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of r*ping an 86-year-old woman in Mukurwe-ini Sub-County, Nyeri County. Jairus Githendu Irenyo was convicted of r*pe under Section 3(1)(a) and (b), as read with Section 3(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006, following a successful prosecution by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The incident occurred on September 1, 2025, at Gitura Village in Kiharo Location. The court heard that Irenyo unlawfully entered the elderly woman’s home after damaging a wall beside her door before restraining and s*xually ass*ulting her using force and threats. After the incident, the survivor reported the matter to the area chief, who referred her to the police for further action. She also told the chief that the accused had assaulted her on previous occasions but she had not reported them because of shame.

Siesta time 💤 The heat has been extreme lately 🥵 with temperatures of 42 degree C (107 F) in the shade almost every day. On top of that a bushfire has started in the wildlife areas surrounding us — we got our hands full. When there is time for a break laying in the shade is pretty much the only option to find comfort — Sirga spends most of her time resting now. #sirgathelioness #nature #africa #animals #conservation
