Love this for us 🙄

The age gap in identification for ADHD is a problem for a variety of reasons-but to sum it up:

Later diagnosis leads to many missed opportunities for helpful interventions and accommodations-having to exist without the knowledge around how our minds *actually* work leads to high masking and burnout among women once they reach their thirties. (This often becomes clear for women once they become mothers, because all of their resources that they used to use for masking are taxed beyond recognition by having a baby)

7 vs 35. that gap is actually insane when you think about all the years of self-blame and burnout that happened in between. becoming a mom is what finally made my mask crack completely

7 vs 35. that gap is devastating when you think about all the years we spent thinking something was wrong with us instead of getting actual support

The diagnosis is because "we can't deal with him, let's drug him up to calm him down". Doesn't mean the early diagnosis is doing any good

Got peer-reviewed at my first job when I was 22. At 25 job hunting was what finally made me admit they were right and see a professional. Starring blankly at a computer screen for 30 minutes is bs. It’s weird looking back on all the times I burnt out in school and wondering if it could have been easier.

99% of the diagnosed autistic people I know are boys, of all ages. I had very obvious traits of autism since like, ever. But now I can't get diagnosed because 16 is too old and they're prioritizing on diagnosing children who need it more. I just think it's annoyingly funny that every person I know who had the privilege of an early diagnosis is a man.

I'm 23 and thankfully I got educated about it early. I'm not diagnosed yet and I don't know the process of it, pray for me
