Did you know India has its own traditional coffee brewing method that predates the French Press?
The South Indian filter uses two layers of metal filters to brew rich, flavorful coffee — similar in spirit to a Vietnamese
#phin, but with a longer extraction and infusion.
It’s incredibly easy and mobile:
• Add 3 tablespoons of Medium-Fine Pitara coffee to the base (we recommend Kaapi!)
• Place the second filter plate on top.
• Fill to the rim with boiling water and wait about 15 minutes for the magic to happen.
The result?
• Twice the strength of a typical pour-over.
• A long infusion time that draws out deep, complex flavors (pour-over takes 3–4 minutes; the South Indian filter takes 10–15 minutes).
• Smoother than French press (thanks to the fine dual filters catching some oils and sediments), yet still bolder and fuller than espresso.
