Democrat Gina Hinojosa secured victory over three-term Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the Associated Press said, a stunning flip in the country’s most populous red state after more than three decades of Republican leadership. With 67% of the expected vote counted, Hinojosa had 57% to Abbott’s 42%. Hinojosa, a 52-year-old lawyer and state representative, began her race as a Democratic longshot against a governor known for his political prowess and formidable campaign war chest. But she gained momentum from voter dissatisfaction with Trump administration policies and the economy under Republican leadership. Hinojosa surprised many Texas political observers by gaining on Abbott in polls ahead of the election, despite being vastly outspent. Her polling raised Democrats’ excitement in a state where they had not won a statewide seat since 1994. Photo: Bob Daemmrich/ZUMA Press

Frizzle has been missing for 43 days, and 37,000 strangers are still looking for her. When I look at Frizzle, I see Scout. If I were in Josh’s shoes, I know I’d do anything to find my baby too. You may have seen her in my stories, but I want to do more to help. On the night of September 20th, an adventure cat named Frizzle disappeared from her campsite at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Since then, her human Josh has combed miles of desert on foot and by drone. Trail cams and feeding stations have been set up, and there’s been no sign of predators. He believes someone picked her up, thinking she’d been abandoned. And because the flats are a tourist destination, she could be anywhere by now. More than 37,000 strangers have come together to help find her, whether by searching the flats, posting flyers, sharing her story, or donating, all for a cat most of us have never met. Now Frizzle’s army is trying to reach people who aren’t on social media. The plan: Taylor Swift lent a pair of boots to a friend, @ally_zacovic, in high school. If Taylor authenticates the boots, they’ll be auctioned off. Some of the funds will help the search, and the rest will go to a cat rescue called Kai’s Place. Getting Taylor’s attention on this would also help us broadcast Frizzle to a larger audience. If you or someone you know picked up or recently adopted a cat that looks like Frizzle, please contact @find.frizzle. There’s a $10,000 (limited time) reward for her return, and so much gratitude from a man desperate to find his best friend. One share could reach the right person. Please repost and share this to your stories, and help us get @taylorswift’s attention. Let’s bring Frizzle home. 🩵 🐾 HOW TO RECOGNIZE FRIZZLE 5 years old, microchipped Seal point, medium-length fluffy coat (NOT short hair) Blue eyes Dark mask shaped like a down arrow ⬇️ Toasted ears, paws, and legs Lightly toasted back and belly @thedodo @people @goodmorningamerica @todayshow @cnn @taylornation #FindFrizzle #MissingCat #LostCat #AdventureCat #swifties

Her parents say they were tracking her on the marathon tracking app when she stopped moving at Mile 24. “Final stretch,” her father texted her at Mile 23, but she never replied. Her parents say they were waiting at Mile 25 and tracking her on the app, but noticed she stopped moving at Mile 24. After a few minutes, they headed to Mile 24, where they found an ambulance pulling out. According to The New York Times, Apa collapsed before a social worker ran over and tried to find a pulse. Three people took turns trying to resuscitate her. She was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where doctors spent six hours trying to save her life. Apa’s father says she died from rhabdomyolysis, a condition that can be caused by exertion, in which skeletal muscle rapidly disintegrates and poisons the blood. “It’s unfathomable. Perfect health, perfect shape, 24 years old,” her father said. Apa played field hockey at Bucknell University and ran the race for her grandfather, who died from Parkinson’s disease.
