Guys I had to focus on getting this zipper situated! 🤣
Here I assist Drs. Pretorius and Frankenstein in their experiments, wearing a dress dated 1891 (with slightly later veil). The ancient Egyptians have no tales of reanimation in the style of Mary Shelley’s anti-hero doctor, although the “Opening of the Mouth” ritual could allow both the body of the deceased and a statue (even a two-dimensional relief) to function as a conduit for a spiritual force, although neither stalked abroad as a Golem-like figure. We also have no evidence for stitched together pieces forming composite mummies, of the sort H.P. Lovecraft describes in his “Imprisoned with the Pharaohs.” However, we do have some unusual animal mummies. When ancient Egyptians gave proper burial and thereby good afterlifes to the bodies of animals sacred to ancient Egyptian deities, they received in turn spiritual benefit for themselves. When this practice became so popular in Late Period Egypt that demand for those animal mummies increased, some unscrupulous priests sold cobbled together bits of animals, even sticks and sawdust. The Ptolemaic Period priest Hor of Sebennytos (2nd century BCE), oversaw an investigation into this fraud, resulting in the pithy rule: “One god (mummified animal avatar of a deity), one pot (ceramic burial vessel)!” #darkacademia #1890sfashion #ancientegypt #Egyptology #frankenstein
