Congratulations to Mel Shumaker ’25 (left) and Bella Rhodes ’25 (right) for their special recognition at the Bridgewater College Awards Ceremony on April 5, 2025!! Mel received the Health & Exercise Science Major of the Year Award and Bella received the Health & Exercise Science Excellence in Academics Award. Both Mel and Bella are part of the Bridgewater College MSAT Accelerated Program, will be receiving their bachelor’s degree this May and entering the second year of their master’s degree.

We can’t begin to explain the emotional rollercoaster we’ve been on for the past two weeks. We’ve always been in awe of the Bauers and the grace, strength and resolve they’ve shown over the past two years. But seeing them firsthand in the courtroom, fighting for Christa’s babies has opened up our eyes in a way words can’t adequately describe.

Over the past two weeks we’ve seen the Bauers raked over the coals, again and again, simply for doing what’s in the best interest of Christa’s children. The fact that they have always put the kids interests first took a backseat for the other side. Because they didn’t like HOW the Bauers did it.

But on October 30th, a jury of 12 incredible people unanimously decided what we all have known to be true for the past two years: that the children should remain in the Bauers’ care, surrounded by the love, stability, and community they have known since their whole world fell apart. 💜

We are so grateful to the jury, who saw through the darkness and chose the light. We are thankful for the lawyers who broke out into sobs along side us when the verdict was read, who worked so hard for these kids and this family, and who have put their own lives on hold to fight for what’s right. And we are so grateful for the community near and far who have showed up time and time again for this incredible family, who should never have been faced with this battle to begin with.

On Friday night we turned a corner. We were reminded that among heartbreak, hope and goodness remains. Among darkness there can be light. And that truth and goodness always prevail. The fight for justice is far from over. But this is an enormous leap forward.

همه‌چیز را نمی‌شود با کلمات توضیح داد. بعضی حس‌ها را باید در سکوت زندگی کرد؛ مثل آرامشی که بعد از عبور از خیلی چیزها به دست می‌آید.
