Rice University Department of Art History

Don’t skip out on Houston's first Black art reference library, The Reading Room @thereadingroom.htx , founded by Amarie Gipson, writer, creative entrepreneur, and previous Freedmen's Town Research Fellow.

Professors Denva Gallant and Olivia Young led their students from “HART 308: Black Visual Culture: From “Lemonade” to “They Not Like Us”” off campus for a look at how community members are increasing visual arts literacy and cultural awareness with The Reading Room serving as a repository for information about Black artists around the world.

Prof. Young will be on leave in the fall, but Prof. Gallant will be offering two stimulating courses “HART 230: Early Medieval Art” and “HART 337: Radical Bodies in Medieval Art” - sign up now!
