Being a solo parent to a 9 year old can be rough sometimes like taking the role of Dad and Mom but there are moments like today that make me proud he's accomplishing big things. Today we were notified he is eligible for the GATE program (Gifted and Talented Education) next year at his school. Despite the totally horrendous year he's gone through, the kid's going to be alright.

It’s not over ‘til it’s over. @nycmarathon 🥈😤

Had to tell myself this more than times than usual yesterday. It wasn’t a day where I felt perfect, but it didn’t need to be.

@mountainroche and I had a pre-race call before I left for NYC and his advice was “just be Jess.” I don’t think he knew that something so simple could give me so much confidence.

There was no over-engineering or overanalyzing anything. I stacked a lot of imperfect, grindy bricks at altitude and in the AZ heat this summer.

The workouts that I thought were pretty “meh” or a “check the box/get it done” type days ended up being the ones that David said made me better, not the workouts where most splits/reps/things went to plan.

All that was left to do was get to NYC healthy, enjoy it all, take whatever the race had to throw at me, and “just be Jess” through all five boroughs.

I sent David a DM two years ago after the NYC Marathon after being a fan of him, Megan, and the pod for quite sometime. He was so gracious with his time and lent an ear when I needed it the most.

I told him I wanted to get better, but keep it fun. I don’t think a lot of coaches would care about that second part as much as the first. But he did.

It has been a very fun two years of working together and discovering my best self. I owe a lot of this to him. So @mountainroche… just keep being you, too!

Thank you to the @nyrr team (Dorian, Sam, Christine, everyone!) for taking a chance on us and making NYC feel like home.

The @brooksrunning fam helped us share our unique journeys to NYC. The love at Brooks runs so deep and I feel so lucky.

Thanks to Connor, my Dad, and my besties for making me feel like I can full send it and they would still love me even if it all went sideways.

& thanks to @set4go_llc for getting me to every start line healthy the last 4 years.

Congrats to @sheilachepkiruiken & @hellenobiri… thank you for getting the best out of us all yesterday.

Can’t say thank you enough for all the sweet messages I have received. Down bad crying on the plane reading through them all. I love this sport so much!
