Day 8/30
7 Slides....
Slide 1 is an image of networks in two parts one was configured using DHCP the other will be configured statically
Slide 2 Inside my virtual DHCP server I created pools for the networks(the ones with end devices) connected to the router.. I created 4 pools which means I had 4 networks that had end devices.
Each pools contains the default gateway of that network (the IP address of the router's port it's connected too), it also contains the DNS server (the IP address of my server used for DNS... I'll explain in slide 5) then it also contains the number you would want the IP address to start being assigned from.
In slide 3 after I've created my pools I entered one of my switches and I wrote the command for it to get an IP address automatically "IP add DHCP" and an IP address was assigned to it.
In slide 4 If you look closely at the top you'll see two buttons saying DHCP and Static
I clicked on the DHCP button and my end devices got assigned an IP address
In slide 5 I configured my server to use the DNS (Domain Name system)
What's the DNS about?? Just like our contact list(phone book) that saves phone numbers with names for easy access that's what the DNS is about
It saves IP address as Names that's why if you go to your command prompt on your laptop when it's connected to the Internet and you type "ping www.google.com" you'll get replies... What you just did was instead of pinging Google's IP address you ping their domain names that have already been registered under their IP address.
In slide 5 you'll see a list of my end devices' IP addresses registered as their names.
Where you see loctechng.com and an IP address is because I configured one of my servers to be registered as that.
In slide 6 and 7 you'll see the replies I got from pinging my devices with the names I registered them with... My virtual network is up and running
Thank you for reading till the end😘
Till next time
Stay Tuned 💯
