Because I said so”? Let’s talk about the TradDad-the dad who raised us to survive, not just to feel good.
Today, we’re talking about the TradDad-the dad who never asked what you wanted for dinner, never called you his hero, and definitely never said, “One more story, then bedtime.” For the TradDad, “Because I said so” is a full sentence. Apologies are not negotiable, bedtime is not up for debate, and the car WILL turn around if you push it.
This is the dad who knows he’s your parent, not your friend. He’s not your emotional support animal-he’s the guy who’s raising an adult who can survive in the wild. He’s strict, yes, but he’s got a point: sometimes, life isn’t fair. Clean your room, be quiet-the adults are talking. And it’s not all about you.

I’m gen. X bc I said so has always been a thing. My boys were raised by divorced gen x. Surprise we still parented together. We’re gen x. We said go outside. Do your chores. I’m not your friend. Do what we tell you to do. You’re grounded at moms you’re grounded at dads. What happened? I have two respectful hard working young men.

I agree with most of this. Corporal punishment, within reason, has a place. Inviting your kid to express an opinion, like letting them pick dinner now and then, is sensible.

Yeah forgot about the time out crowd. Timeout does not work and it has been proven look at where we’re at.
