“Crowned in Cloth: Framed by Her Lineage” 🇰🇪🖤
Charity’s story is not one of metaphor, it is lived. Her family’s Kenyan heritage exists not in abstraction but in practice: in language, in labor, in faith, in fashion. Crowned in Cloth is a visual conversation with that legacy. An offering to the women who shaped her, and a refusal to let their stories be flattened or forgotten.
Located in East Africa along the equator, Kenya is a country known for it’s breathtaking landscapes from the Great Rift Valley to coastal Swahili towns; and for the cultural richness of over 40 distinct ethnic groups, including the Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, and Maasai. This land carries deep ancestral history, colonial resistance, and generations of women who held families, traditions, and futures together through migration, modernity, and systemic erasure. It is from this land that Charity’s story emerges grounded, vibrant, and deeply connected. The red and black plaid worn by the Maasai. The braided hairstyles once used to identify tribe, age, and marital status. The pride in posture, the power in presence; these are not aesthetics. They are archives. In this editorial, Charity steps into full view not to be looked at, but to look back and frame herself on her own terms. The oversized frame surrounding her is not there to contain her, but to elevate her. A structure she now owns, stands within, and redefines.
This is not just about being seen. It is about what is remembered. Through this series, we honor Charity’s mother, her grandmother, her lineage. The Kenyan women whose lives made this image possible. Thank you to Charity for trusting us with this truth. We are proud to stand beside her in telling it.
