Yesterday, we had to say goodbye to the most special dog, Oliver.
@evviewalkersmith raised the gentlest, kindest soul, and I’m forever grateful she brought him into our family. I’m equally grateful to Ollie for the 11 years he spent quietly weaving himself into the fabric of my life: my days, my routine, my joy, my being.
I feel lucky for every memory made. They’re mine to hold close, tucked away until I need to revisit one and feel him near. Oliver was so pure, so good. His existence was fleeting, but it was everything.
I love you so much, Ollie. Thank you for being the best boy in the world. Losing you so abruptly feels so unfair. As I try to make sense of this sadness, I’ll keep thinking of Ann Druyan’s words after Carl Sagan’s passing:
“Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous—not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance.... That pure chance could be so generous and so kind... That we could find each other in the vastness of space and the immensity of time. …I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful.”
