The iconic “You guys are getting paid?” meme comes from the 2013 comedy film We're the Millers, starring Will Poulter as Kenny Rossmore. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film follows a fake family recruited to smuggle marijuana from Mexico into the United States.

In the scene, Kenny is genuinely shocked when he discovers that the others are being paid thousands of dollars for the risky job. He had assumed they were all doing it for free, making his confused reaction a perfect meme for situations where everyone else is receiving money or benefits that you didn't even know existed.
