From the Worst Dressed list in 1996 to front row at a Versace show in 1997. Fuck yeah, that’s Courtney Love. But her interest in fashion went way back, long before the red carpets. In the 80s, her then-boyfriend’s mother, Bernadene, worked in Paramount’s costume department. She had costumed Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest (1981), and teenage Courtney would visit the set, developing a habit of rescuing antique pieces Bernadene had been asked to dispose of. “She spent a lot of time with me there. She was fascinated by the clothes and so excited when she found something genuine,” Bernadene recalled in ‘02. Courtney explained that her job involved throwing out clothes with dry rot: “Of course, I didn’t throw them out. I wore them every night. I was the best-dressed girl in Hollywood. I was wearing Lauren Bacall’s shoes, Grace Kelly’s dresses, and Frances Farmer’s hats.” Despite becoming a subculture fashion icon in the mid-90s for her kinderwh*re style, by January ‘96 Courtney had landed on fashion critic Mr. Blackwell’s Worst Dressed list (v questionable). At the NYC Film Critics awards on January 5, ‘97, she won Best Supporting Actress and confessed in her speech that she “had never won anything but Worst Dressed. So this is nice.” Then things took a turn. Courtney got the “Vogue makeover” and the fashion industry SAT UP. Suddenly some of the biggest names in fashion were courting her, desperate to dress her: Versace, Valentino, Prada, Dior, Fendi and Givenchy, to name a few. Most succeeded, as these slides show. After choosing Versace for the Oscars in March (that white dress had debuted on the Paris runway just 8 weeks earlier), she was invited to sit front row at Versace’s New York show the following month. “My very first fashion show!” she shouted to the peasants behind her. She told reporters: “I’ve been so sucked into fashion. It’s strange. My mother ran the first store in Oregon that sold Birkenstocks. So you can understand my beauty problem. I grew up surrounded by sandals.” Swipe through for Courtney’s most iconic high-fashion and ready-to-wear looks, alongside their original runway appearances. #courtneylove #fashion #versace #90s #couture

President Trump was asked what happens if Democrats win back Congress. His answer was perfect. “I’ll become Mr. Veto,” he said. “They will send stuff up, and I’ll veto it.” Then he added, “But hopefully we don’t have to worry about that.” Everyone knows what a Democrat House would mean. Two years of endless subpoenas, fake investigations, impeachment circus acts and bills designed to raise your taxes, open the border and undo everything that’s been accomplished. Trump made it clear he isn’t going to let them wreck the country. The veto pen is one of the most powerful tools a president has, and Trump isn’t afraid to use it. But the better path is making sure he never has to. Democrats have spent years obstructing everything that’s good for working families. If they try it again, Mr. Veto will be waiting for them with a pen in his hand.
