Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Georgia governor’s race, the Associated Press said. Bottoms focused on rising costs in her campaign. She promised that she would stand up to President Trump and work to expand Medicaid in Georgia. Bottoms is the first Democrat to be elected governor in Georgia in almost three decades. Along with Bottoms, they join a group of only six Black elected governors in U.S. history. Photo: Rebecca Blackwell/AP Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa toppled Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the Texas governor’s race, according to the Associated Press, a stunning turn in the typically red state. He didn’t focus on the potential milestone during his campaign, instead emphasizing issues such as inflation and health care. Peggy Flanagan will be the first Native American woman to serve in the Senate.
