Did you know that the International Phonetic alphabet (IPA) originated from Paris? 🇫🇷

In 1886, linguist Paul Passy, alongside a group of French and British language teachers, founded the Dhi Fonètik Tîtcerz’ Asóciécon, later renamed the L’Association Phonétique Internationale, or the International Phonetic Association #ipaas we know it today. Their goal at the time was to create a standardised system of symbols to represent the distinct sounds of all spoken languages.

Over the decades, the IPA has undergone numerous updates to reflect the evolving standards of modern linguistics. As a result, we’re now closer than ever to a world where pronunciation is no longer a mystery, thanks to clearer phonetic instructions that help improve how we speak.

Find out more about why phonetics is so important for improving our pronunciation and how we use it to refine your English pronunciation & soundwaves through our pronunciation programs that build your confidence & clarity.

📍Comment “phonetics” and we’ll send you the dedicated link 🌊
