The designated driver. Except instead of keys, it’s claws the size of switchblades, and instead of Uber, it’s an anteater with zero sense of personal space.
Giant anteaters (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) don’t just eat ants — they become a strange form of public transport. Mothers carry their young on their backs for nearly a year, the baby’s stripes aligning perfectly with the adult’s fur to create camouflage. Evolution turned “piggyback ride” into survival strategy.
But sometimes, even adults hitch a lift. Call it laziness, call it bonding, call it the prehistoric version of carpooling. Either way, what you’re watching is biology with a sense of humor: one animal that’s built like a vacuum cleaner doubling as a bus.
And the best part? Anteaters can walk miles in a single day. That’s one long ride — no gas money required.
