Yesterday, I had the incredible honor of flying my dad’s final flight with United Airlines, marking the close of his remarkable 36-year career. While we’ve been fortunate to share the cockpit together a few times before, this flight was unlike any other. It was the one we had dreamed about and hoped for long before I ever wore the United uniform myself. Even more special, we were able to share the moment with our family onboard, making it a memory we’ll cherish forever.

Words can’t fully express the gratitude and admiration I have for my dad, not only for the example he’s set as a pilot, but how he carries himself as a man. Following in his footsteps at United is an honor, and I know I have some very big shoes to fill.

Congratulations, Dad, on an extraordinary career. You’ve earned every bit of this sendoff, and couldn’t be more proud to call you my captain.
