Concrete House 🌱🌳
Architect and interior designer: @miladeshtiyaghi
Which part is your favorite?
This residence, which I had the privilege of designing, is a modernist retreat immersed in the forest canopy. The architectural vision was guided by the desire to create a seamless relationship between the structure and its natural surroundings. Anchored by clean, monolithic concrete forms, the house is elevated slightly off the ground, preserving the forest floor and allowing light and air to move freely through the site.
Large, floor-to-ceiling glass panels blur the boundary between inside and out, inviting the forest into the living spaces and offering ever-changing views throughout the day. The floating staircase—simple, sculptural, and grounded in natural stone—acts as both an entry sequence and a visual connection between levels. Plant life is not just preserved but incorporated: ferns and potted plants echo the lush environment, softening the concrete geometry.
The interiors were designed to reflect the exterior’s calm and restraint, using warm, earthy materials and minimal furnishings to maintain the meditative, immersive atmosphere. This home is not just a dwelling, but a sanctuary—where architecture and nature cohabit in quiet harmony.

Lifting the house off the ground to keep the forest floor intact is such a thoughtful move. It makes the concrete feel like it belongs there instead of sitting on top of it.

The floating staircase is my favorite part. I love how it contrasts with the solid concrete volumes, making the entrance feel surprisingly light. The floor-to-ceiling glazing also does a great job of keeping the surrounding forest visually connected to the interior.
