So thrilled to win the main prize in the Portrait category with my photo of Alison Spittle at the British Photography Awards! I was so chuffed to see my photo up there alongside the work of actual professional photographers whose work I’ve admired for years. A HUGE thank you to Alison for trusting me with her vision. Her homemade dress made of shower loofahs was genius! A MASSIVE thank you to the judges of the BPAs who I still can’t believe picked my photo out of all the amazing work in the category. The night wouldn’t have been half as fun if @hollyrnewman wasn’t there with me, so a BIG thank you to my mum for babysitting and allowing us our first proper night out since we became parents! #bpa #britishphotographyawards The winning photo in question! Shot at my home away from home @hotdog_studios This is my other photo that was in the running last night. A photo of one of my absolute faves, @fatiha.elghorri A few weeks ago I asked/ begged my mates to vote for it for the People’s Choice prize but unfortunately it didn’t win. Thank you to everyone who voted anyway, I really appreciate it! And the biggest thank you to my wife/ bestie/ queen @hollyrnewman What a woman to have in your corner! The most supportive, loving wife and mum!
The same thing that makes ibuprofen and other NSAIDs work on pain also lowers the protection on your stomach lining... On a recent Ask Me Anything episode, a listener asked me, “How bad is ibuprofen really?” I hear it all the time in my telehealth practice, usually from someone who wants to know if one or two for a headache or cramps is okay. Here’s what’s happening... Ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin are NSAIDs, and they work by blocking enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) that make prostaglandins. Prostaglandins drive inflammation, swelling, and pain, which is why blocking them helps. But they also protect your stomach lining, reduce excess stomach acid, stimulate gut-protective mucus, and support your kidneys and blood flow to your liver. So when we block them, we’re not only turning down pain. We’re turning down the things that protect your gut. The more you take and the more often you take it, the more likely you are to run into issues. But I don’t want you to be afraid of it! If one ibuprofen a month is what gets you through a day of bad cramps, or a headache is keeping you from sleep, the benefit can outweigh the risk. Use the lowest dose that works, as infrequently as you can, and if you take it regularly, check in with your doctor. If you reach for it often, it’s worth trying natural options like curcumin, boswellia, white willow bark, and magnesium, and asking what’s behind the pain in the first place. Comment PAIN and I’ll send you the article, plus my other resources. ❤️❤️ Have you ever swapped ibuprofen for something else? Tell me below what’s worked for you! #artofbeingwell #selfhealers #guthealth #inflammation #naturalremedies
