☁️💕 Cotton Candy lights up @timessquarenyc each night all August from 11:57 pm to 12 am on 95+ screens for #MidnightMoment, curated by @tsqarts.

Huge thank you to everyone who came to this fun opening, friends and family and to the @tsqarts team for everything!🙏💕☁️ In the spirit of Times Square’s costumed performers, I dressed in character for the opening, made cotton candy, and handed it out to the crowd.

Cotton Candy is a 3 min video performance featuring actress @jonelaruka — a playful, surreal, Baroque-tinged exploration of fulfillment, consumption, and desire.

Shot in 2011, just one year after I moved to New York, it portrays a transitional space filled with knock-offs of Louis XIV furniture — a space where you can’t rest, with beds without mattresses, and a character lost in there, suspended in time eating her cotton candy bouffant hair. What do we fill our heads with? Which ideals, illusions, or ideologies pursue us? Where does our money go — and does that fulfill us, or consume us?

The work was first released in 2014, then re-edited and re-released over the years. This is the latest version now lighting up Times Square.

This #MidnightMoment is truly a dream come true after dedicating the past 15 years of my life in NYC to making art. Hold on to your dreams, y’all — anything can happen!
