Flew into Chicago for a whirlwind 18 hours to see the almighty @silkworm.music , a band I’ve loved since the mid ‘90s when I heard “Couldn’t You Wait” on a CMJ Music compilation. My sister & I saw them anytime they came to NYC (hello, Knitting Factory when it was around and when it was in Manhattan (the 2nd coming)) and this time I got to see them with my friend Amanda, someone who shares the distinction & infamy of also being a former Matador intern (we didn’t overlap, but became friends bc of our love of Pavement). I never got to see the version on Silkworm with Joel in the band so this was an extra special treat. Fitting that the show ended with this song, “The Bones,” with Joel on vocals. “We’re gonna live a long time before we go” Yeah, we are. That’s a promise and threat.
