#repost @weingartenartgroup Unveiled this week at Discovery Green: Chroma Collective by Houston-based artist Karen Navarro
Developed during the pilot year of Art Lab—a mentorship program supporting Houston artists in the leap from studio to public art—Chroma Collective is Karen Navarro’s first major public installation. Drawing from her background as an immigrant of Latin American, European, and Indigenous descent, the work reimagines identity as something both personal and collective.
Through 31 mirrored columns and 93 rotating panels featuring images of Houstonians (and the artist herself), Navarro invites us to consider how we see ourselves—and one another—within our shared urban fabric. The result is a playful, participatory sculpture with layers of cultural storytelling and introspection.
On view through November 2, 2025 on the Sarofim Picnic Lawn, Chroma Collective marks the culmination of Art Lab’s inaugural year and a milestone moment in Navarro’s expanding practice.
And if you’re visiting during
@untitledartfair (Sept 18–21), don’t miss her work there as well—featured in the Special Projects section with
@galleriurbane, just across the street at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
