3 homestead hacks you’ll wish you knew sooner 🪵🥚🌱

1️⃣ Wood mulch is like liquid gold for homesteading. Call your local utility provider for free wood chips! They can’t sell what’s trimmed along public easements, so you can often snag it for nothing.

2️⃣ If you’ve got chickens AND a garden, I’m about to make your day (and your breakfast) Your @goodeggstuff brush isn’t just for eggs… flip it inside out and you’ve got the perfect silicone scrubber for your garden veggies!

3️⃣ Buy bare root plants in the fall. Most nurseries start clearing out space going into winter and these are the first to go. They’re often cheaper, easier to ship, and will be ready to take off come spring!

Save this for your next homestead project ✔️

That egg scraber is just another product that encourages over consumption of things we don't actually need (waste). Just use your kitchen sponge (preferably natural lufa) or an old tooth brush. Encourage multi use products that we already have at home instead of buying unnecessary things

a good way to clean your root vegetables is the mesh they wrap up onions or oranges at the store. Roll it up in a ball and use a bit of water and there is no more dirt

It’s Polar Bear Week. And there’s something the world’s leading polar bear conservation organizations aren’t talking enough about. Polar bears are still being killed so their skins can be sold as luxury items. And some of the biggest conservation organizations continue to defend allowing that trade. Including @polarbearsinternational and @wwf Smith I’m writing this from Churchill, Manitoba, where I’ve been watching polar bears along the shores of Hudson Bay. Just days ago, I was in Nunavut, where polar bears were being hunted in the same area we had travelled thousands of kilometres to photograph them. On our final day, we saw photographs of three bears that had been killed. It was heartbreaking. I’ve spent years photographing bears around the world. I understand that climate change is the greatest long-term threat to polar bears. I also respect Inuit subsistence hunting rights. But why, in 2026, are we still allowing polar bear skins to be sold on the international luxury market? And why are organizations that raise millions to protect polar bears defending that trade? More than 4,000 polar bear skins were exported from Canada between 2002 and 2021. We cannot restore Arctic sea ice tomorrow. But we can work to end the international commercial trade in polar bear skins. We should be doing both. I’ve respected Polar Bears International for years. But after examining their position, I can no longer support the organization while it continues to defend allowing this trade. A polar bear should not end up as a rug on someone’s floor simply because someone is willing to pay for it. This Polar Bear Week, I want people to ask harder questions. Ask Polar Bears International and WWF where they stand. Ask why they continue to defend this trade. I’ve written an article explaining my position, including what happened in Nunavut and what the documentary @tradesecretfilm revealed. Please read it. Share it. And help start a conversation that desperately needs to happen. Full article at the link in my story. We can and we must do better 🙏🐻‍❄️ #PolarBears #PolarBearWeek #WildlifeConservation #conservation #bethechange
