“LOST MY D*MN BUTTON” OUT NOW #freefoenemmmm
Today’s @nycmarathon could hardly have gone better. I was in European time, so waking up at 4:30 was easy. I went downstairs and found my uniform all laid out on the floor, with my shoes and socks, and a note from my youngest son: “love you Dad.” I put the note in the back pocket of my racing shorts and headed to the start, and the Staten Island ferry, which was 90% full of runners and 10% full of hungover witches and goblins heading home. I had told my boys that the best-case scenario was 2:39:59. I held that 6:05 pace, with a couple small hitches, as we made our way through the city. I ran for much of it with my training partner and friend @yungccohen. The crowds were glorious. As little J said, “it’s as close as normal people can get to playing sports in a sold-out stadium.” I slowed a bit on 5th Avenue and sprinted as hard as I could up the last bit in Central Park. I finished in 2:40:09, just off pace but thrilled overall and third in my age group. I took the note out from my son and read it again as I walked to the 2/3 train home. Thank you to @nnenna_runs for the finish-line photo, @districtvision for the singlet, @brooklyntrackclub for the love, @zachbitter for the coaching, and @everydayathlete.co for the fuel. This was my 13th NYC finish, but definitely not my last. Maybe I can find those nine seconds in my training next year.

Throwing it back to this Samba from The Next Pro, the show that gave me my dream. ❤️ I will always have a special love for traditional Latin and ballroom dancing. There’s something so powerful about a pure Samba, staying true to its roots, its technique, its rhythm, and most importantly, its character. That’s exactly what I wanted to capture through this choreography. That raw, authentic, and vulnerable side of Latin dancing is what made me fall in love with it in the first place, and it’s what I’ll continue to carry with me. I feel so lucky that I get to live out my passion and share my love for dance every single week on dancing with the Stars iconic stage⭐️
The Diagnosis of a Dead Generation A blob-shaped patient walks into the doctor's office feeling old, and the physician, rather than checking blood pressure or running labs, simply asks about musical taste. The answer, a love of mid-2000s emo, gets scribbled onto the clipboard as a terminal prognosis: patient is basically dead. The joke lands because everyone who grew up with My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy on repeat knows exactly what it feels like to watch their defining cultural moment get carbon-dated in real time. Rome had a version of this. The older patrician class clung to the Republic's traditions, its rhetoric, its music, its civic ceremonies, long after Augustus had rewritten the entire operating system of the state. To the new imperial generation, loving the old forms was not nostalgia, it was a clinical indicator that you were a relic. Suetonius and Tacitus both document how the language of the Republic was kept alive in Senate chambers while meaning absolutely nothing to anyone under forty in the street outside. Every empire cycles through this. The Ottomans had their janissaries who refused modernization and paid with their lives for it in 1826. The Persians under Darius III were still tactically brilliant by the standards of a previous century, which is precisely why Alexander's oblique cavalry charge at Gaugamela read like a doctor writing "patient is basically dead" on a very large clipboard. The prank is that every generation believes its cultural peak was the real one, the permanent one, the one history would recognize as correct. Rome believed that too. Rome is a ruin. #AncientRome #BreadAndCircuses #HistoryRepeats
