Throughout the filming of Training Day, Denzel Washington heavily relied on improvisation, spontaneously creating many of his dialogues to give Alonzo Harris an unpredictable edge. This creative freedom reached its peak at the end of the film, during the confrontation in which Harris tries to maintain his authority in front of the neighborhood residents. There, Washington delivers a long monologue that culminates in the iconic line, “King Kong ain’t got shit on me.” Despite being perfectly suited to the moment, the line was not in the original script. In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Antoine Fuqua recalled that Washington improvised it during filming: “The King Kong moment came out of Denzel. I remember that moment because we were doing the scene, and he just started going off. I remember looking at the cameraman and saying, ‘I hope you got that because I don’t think we’re going to get that again’”. Washington’s spontaneous performance gave rise to one of the film’s most memorable moments. His masterful portrayal of a corrupt police officer became one of the most defining performances of his career, even earning him the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year. Watching that improvised monologue, you don't see Washington. The scene captures a man driven by greed and power, desperately clinging to whatever remnants of control he has left. The reason I loved last night was the look of awe and adoration on the faces of preverbal children when they saw me, thinking I was her. Even infants in their parents’ arms would become star struck and wrestle their way away from the home base of their parent to try and be held by me (Ms Rachel). I saw the childlike delight trapped inside self aware adults, too, both coming alive and then immediately suppressed (sadly, most often in fathers attempting to maintain their masculine facade)… ms Rachel manages to be full of rage and sorrow, and actively spreads joy as a practice.
Hakeem Jeffries is a Zionist who calls Israel the 6th borough of NY, who opposes withholding military funding or aid to Israel, and who opposes Medicare for all. This is who @aoc & @nycmayor want to set the agenda for the House. Why are so many progressive bending the knee to a corporate Zionist AIPAC shill? And why are so many people optimistic about what Democrats will do while they’re in power when Jeffries is openly talking about how he’s not out to “get even” with Trump, meaning no accountability. Is this what his secret meeting with Jared Kushner was about?
