A1's CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE. BUT DIFFERENT.
in 2002, a British-Norweigian boy and called A1 released this song, and it was a slight departure from what their recent singles sounded like. the distinctive sound of the acoustic guitar, the drums, and their signature harmonies — it was different. I was fifteen, and I remember feeling like my life was all downhill. nothing seemed to be able to top my 14th year. this song was just playing over and over on MTV and on the radio. years later when I was a bit better at playing guitar, I strummed the song's signature opening chords and I was like, "wow, there's something about this song."
23 years later, there's still something about this song.
it has such a happy sounding chorus, but the lyrics are actually really sad.
I really don't know whether this falls under the "pop-punk" or "punk rock" genre, but it's a style of music that I get, and one that I feel gets me. if you get it too, then it's for you.
if you're really feeling sad, I hope the lyrics and chords bring you back to a happier, simpler time — in spite of it being a sad song. 😅
take care, everyone. 🫰🏻
