our city has always found a way to turn challenges into progress.

the shifts may be different but the spirit remains the same.

Since spring, a little winter baby has been quietly growing. In just a few months, we’ll welcome our third child into this world.

I carry a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude for this body that has been able to carry and bring three children into the world. Gratitude for my husband, for the life we have built together, and for the opportunities we have created for ourselves as a family.

Our architectural practice will continue, just as it always has. And, as with our first two children, we look forward to welcoming this little one into both our family life and our everyday work.

We have never believed that building an architecture studio and building a family are opposing paths. Quite the opposite. Parenthood has made us better architects. It has taught us to slow down, to observe more carefully, to embrace imperfection, and to remember who and what we ultimately design for.

We believe family life deserves to be visible. Our children are not something we leave behind when we work, they are part of the life we live, and therefore part of the perspective we bring into our practice.

With every pregnancy, I’m also reminded of how fortunate I am to experience pregnancy, birth, and motherhood with safety, care, and support. It’s a privilege I never take for granted, and I wish every woman and every child could have that same opportunity ❤️

You know men like this are v*ting. We cannot let them choose for us. They don’t get to decide.

A month ago Elissa Slotkin stood on a stage and bragged about her education. She had gone to Poland and Hungary, she said, and studied the forces that beat Viktor Orban, and she brought the lessons home. There is a playbook for these authoritarians, she said, and there is a playbook for getting out of it. She said it like the notes were a weapon. She said it weeks before the police surrounded a constitutional court in Warsaw.

Then came Friday night. Riot police cordoned off the Constitutional Tribunal, the court that had stood in the prime minister’s way, and a judge the president never swore in suspended the court’s president and vice president. The court itself called it an illegal takeover and a coup d’état. The prime minister took credit for restoring the rule of law. The president flew home from Africa, walked through the crowds, climbed the barriers, and entered his own court. It reads like Slotkin’s playbook, in real time: the broad coalition, the corruption charge, the court neutralized, all of it dressed as saving democracy. The lessons she brought home from Poland arrived in Poland first.

Nobody says she ordered the police to the court. Nobody has to. The question is whose side the playbook serves, and the answer was on the stage a month ago: the side that seizes the court and calls it law, the side that suspends the judges and calls it order, the side that treats a constitutional tribunal as an obstacle to be removed rather than a limit to be obeyed. Slotkin brought home lessons from Poland. Donald Tusk just demonstrated the lesson back, and the lesson is that the authoritarian playbook has two covers. One of them is hers. Michigan should read both before Tuesday.

Holy shit. I FINALLY watched, CRIMES OF PASSION (1984) 🤯🥵

WHAT A FILM. When it first started, all I could think was, this is like RUSSELL doing DE PALMA and I FUCKING LOVED IT SO MUCH. So wild BODY DOUBLE (1984) came out the same year 🙌🤩

ANTHONY PERKINS delivers a chilling and sincerely engrossing performance as the faulty Rev. Peter Shayne. He’s like NORMAN BATES, if Norman Bates went to Midnight Movies in the grittiest part of late 1970s, LA.

KATHLEEN TURNER lights the fuggin’ screen on fire with her portrayal of endlessly enigmatic, CHINA BLUE 🩵🔥💋💅

She never ceases to be ridiculously iconic. Turner’s inimitable performance in SERIAL MOM is permanently burned into my psyche 🥣👁️🔪🩸

People who know me, know that my favorite movie of all time is Ken Russell’s, THE DEVILS (1971). It’s been a complete joy to see it finally get the release it always deserved, and such a worldwide outpouring of new and old fandom and adoration 😭🙌🖤

He directed a LOT of movies! So I’m trying to catch up.

I’ve already seen and adore, LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM (1988), ALTERED STATES (1980) and TOMMY (1975). Just watched WHORE (1991) the other night, another absolute banger. Next up, WOMEN IN LOVE (1969).
