40mins of a lifetime 🐋 ❤️
But hard earnt. Some days out here, you see nothing at all, conditions can be tough and tiring.
Other days, the ocean reminds you just how alive it is.
The effort, the patience, the quiet hours; they make moments like this overflow with gratitude and love.
On this day, this beautiful whale B lined straight toward us; rolling, twisting, circling back again and again. Each time we tried to swim away to give space, she’d change direction and close the gap like she was playing a game. You can’t outswim a whale. You just do your best to stay calm, stay respectful, and trust that she knows what she’s doing.
It was equal parts awe, fear, and disbelief.
Forty tonnes of gentle curiosity. Moving so close it took your breath away, yet somehow never once felt threatening. Just deeply aware. Deeply intentional.
We spend many days out here with nothing at all, some days you swim till your legs burn for a beautiful but fleeting moment lasting 0.5 seconds. That’s how it should be. Nothing about the ocean should ever be guaranteed or forced. Any moment, big or small is a blessing. The fact that nature, even for a millisecond, chose to let you in - what a privilege. But every now and then, you meet an animal who decides to rewrite the rules. A rare kind of magic.
This was one of those moments.
Wild, rare, humbling and completely hers to give.
