8 months agoi had hermit crabs for a bit because i was watching them while their owner went out of town and then when she returned “oh actually you can just have them!”
9 months agoAs an arachnid and insect keeper, I love seeing the overlooked creatures getting the proper care and respect they deserve
9 months agoI personally like topsoil instead of eco earth since it's way cheaper and doesn't go nasty as easily !
10 months agoNo because I was selling a hermit crab to this couple and she was like "yeah I had hermit crabs before" and I was like okay cool I would get him a 10 gallon terrarium for now" and she was like ok and then right as I saw them leaving THEY LEFT WITH A PLASTIC CRITTER CRAB KEEPER KIT AND I WAS SO LIVID
10 months agoGot given 1 as a child and it escaped and we never saw it again so they got a second oen to replace it and I remember being like 8 and thinking the tiny little box with sand and no water was really small and for years I had nightmares about that crabs slow death where its legs fell off one by one.
10 months agoFirst time I’ve ever seen a hermit crab get a proper tank. They’re always in those containers for feeder bugs for some reason.
a year agoThis is the same with hamsters LOL they need a minimum of 75 gallon tank and tons of bedding and spot cleans and hides and all of that😭 they are by far one of the harder pets ive owned
a year agoI remember my step mom brought 2 hermit crabs home one day. Their shells were painted, and they lived in those plastic carry boxes that goldfish are in at the fair. I was like 6 or 7 at the time, and I loved mine so very much. I had him with me all the time, but one day when I went to my dad's house (he had visitation) and he was just gone. I don't know what happened to him. The older I get, the worse I feel for him
