A universal part of life is feeling like you don’t belong. But when you find a community that welcomes you and helps you see that what makes you “different” is actually your strength, everything changes. For me, that place was Camp Del Corazon. This month, I’m raising money for the camp that helped me see my heart disease not as a limitation, but as a source of connection and empowerment. I just completed my 15th year volunteering as a counselor, where I lead our Grad Program, for campers in their final year of camp at the age of seventeen.
I don’t take this role lightly and I put my whole heart and its artificial valve into it. I still remember what it felt like to be a camper in my last year, scared that the one place I felt completely myself was coming to an end. Now, 17 years later, I get to help our Grads see that it’s not an ending, it’s the start of a new chapter. Together with an amazing team of counselors, we remind them that the confidence, compassion, and courage they practice at camp can guide them anywhere. Our Grads give me hope. They carry the magic of camp back to their hometowns and turn the world around.
Update: Fully funded! 💕 thanks for helping us reach our goal.
We’re 80% of the way to our $10,000 goal to send a full Grad cabin to camp in 2026. Every dollar truly helps whether it’s $1 or $100. I volunteer because I believe in helping the next generation see their hearts as a compass, and I’d love for you to join me in that mission.
If you have the means please consider donating. It truly is an investment in our future because when we help the next generation believe in themselves anything is possible.

The last photo is from one of my final years as a camper. The previous one recreates that same image with our 2022 Grads, this time with two of my longtime camp friends, Scruff and Dr. Acula, now co-counselors alongside me.
