Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras made headlines in 2023 after earning her private pilot’s license at just 17, before even getting her driver’s license. She began flying lessons and ground-school classes in 2020, with support from her father, who was also a pilot. While attending West Boca Raton High School in Florida, she joined the Palm Beach County School District’s Aviation Academy, which helped fund her training. By September 2023, she had passed her aviation knowledge test and accumulated 88 flight hours, earning her private pilot’s license. She continued advancing her career, eventually obtaining commercial, multi-engine, instrument and certified flight instructor qualifications. In a social media post, she asked, “How often do you see two pilots under 21 with a commercial, multi-engine, instrument, CFI/CFI-I?” She had also accumulated approximately 1,300 flight hours.
