These are a few of the questions I’ve been frequently asked since deciding to walk away from professional sports & the truth is, I don’t have all the answers.

However, what I do know is that when your sport or job, whatever it may be no longer serves you or makes you happy, don’t be afraid to pivot or walk away from it. It isn’t quitting, it is simply making a change which you feel is best for you at that time in your life.

That being said, football was & always will be a massive part of my life, I just have a different view from the outside looking in now and can enjoy it without the emotional attachment of it being my job.

Give it your absolute best while you are doing it, if you succeed, amazing & if all else fails, take the lessons you’ve learned from it, use them as a guideline in whatever you do next, create healthy new habits and a routine that works for you & set your sights on the peak of your OWN mountain.

We can always create new dreams, there are no rules to what we can and can’t achieve, with the correct mindset, belief & drive, anything is possible.

Here are a few things that have helped me stay on track with my own personal goals⤵️

🏃- Staying fit, speaks for itself. A healthy body is created by a strong mind which in turn will help you to execute better decisions in your chosen field.

🛌 - Leaving my comfort zone, I’ve always been one to stay under the radar & be invisible on social media, but in this day and age to pass knowledge on and try to make a positive impact social media is the quickest & easiest way. Something I’m still working on to reach my own goals.

🫴🏽🕟 - Letting go of the past. Coming to terms with leaving professional sports has been much easier the past year or so, I’ve replaced that thrill with purpose, sometimes I’ll think what if & watch old clips here and there but towards the end I was a shadow of the person I wanted to be, so to evolve we have to be willing to let go of the old version of ourselves.

Unfortunately many of us root our identity in status and what we do. Some of the reason that happens is work brings structure and belonging, society rewards achievement and not being, identity and ego become intertwined, high performance becomes the way you are trained to live, plus lack of time to explore “self” with milestone after milestone being the focus. When that disappears and loss of belonging sets in, you have to start to remember and redefine who you are. The person not the footballer.
