The economy was seen by US voters as a key issue heading into this election.

Many thought that during Donald Trump’s second term in office prices would come down.

But a major factor in the surge in prices has been the war with Iran which the US and Israel launched in February.

It saw fuel prices increase after Tehran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation.

Economists also estimate that consumer prices are higher as a result of Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs (taxes on imports), which pushed up the prices of a wide range of imported products.
