New York City has a way of making a finish line feel even bigger.

Crossing the finish line of the #AbbottDash5K was one of those moments when I wanted to stop, look around, and really take it all in.

I’ve learned that accomplishing a goal isn’t always about the result. Sometimes the most meaningful part is becoming the person who was willing to set the goal in the first place.

There was a time when I wouldn’t have imagined races becoming such an important part of my life. Now I find myself looking forward to starting lines, recognizing familiar faces along the course, soaking up every #GoAchilles cheer, and feeling that rush when the finish line finally comes into view.

And doing it in New York made this one especially memorable.

I love this city. I love its energy. I love that on race day complete strangers will cheer for you like they’ve known you forever. And I love that for a few miles, everyone is moving toward the same thing, even though every person out there has a completely different story about what brought them to that starting line.

I certainly have mine.

So this finish line wasn’t about proving anything to anyone else. It was about taking another moment to appreciate where I am right now and the fact that I’m still finding new ways to challenge myself.

Another 5K. Another New York memory. Another goal accomplished.

And, naturally, I’m already wondering what’s next.

On November 2nd, I said goodbye to my best friend. My whole world. My rock. My heart and soul. My college dog. My Loki. 🤍

There will never be enough words to describe what you meant to me or how much of my heart you took with you. You were there for me when I felt like I had no one. Through every high and every low since my sophomore year of college, you were my constant. We grew together, saw each other at our best and our worst, and loved each other through it all.

Being your momma was one of the greatest blessings of my life. We lived one hell of a life together and while I’m so thankful for eleven beautiful years, forever still wouldn’t have been long enough.

I’ve never been much of a homebody, but I always looked forward to coming home because I knew you’d be waiting for your ear rubs. I’ll miss having dinner with you every night and saving you my last bite. That last bite will never be the same without you.

You were so much more than a dog. You were my safe place, my happiness, and the one soul I could always count on. If love alone could’ve kept you here, you would’ve lived forever.

I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything. Until God calls me home and I get to hold you again, I’ll save you my last bite, always.

I love you forever Loki 🤍🐾
