Grey softens.✨

This technique is designed for individuals who aren’t ready to go entirely grey but want a softer, more natural appearance.

Covering grey hair isn’t wrong; the key is choosing the right product.

Most people tend to conceal grey with a dark permanent dye that provides full coverage. However, as the hair grows out, this dye can create a harsh line. The darker the hair, the more noticeable and intense the grey appears.

A common mistake made by many hairstylists and even those colouring at home is applying dye on the top of hair that has been dyed previously This can creat layers of pigmentation and potentially resulting in a blocky, darker look over time.

So, what exactly does this technique involve?
First, we remove around 90% of the existing colour. This is achieved through a process called baby lights foiling, where multiple very thin foil sections are applied layer by layer. Thinner sections yield a more precise, even lift, but be prepared for a lengthy process.

Once we achieve a clean lift across all sections, the hair is carefully washed, dried, and the roots are addressed. A semi-permanent, semi-demi, light brown gloss is applied to soften the grey, which doesn’t fully conceal it but reduces its contrast. And this something you can use at home to maintain your roots.

What happens as your hair grows?

Since we’ve removed the dark permanent dye, your hair can grow out smoothly without stark roots. Even as grey roots start to appear, they blend naturally with the rest of your hair, making the grow-out phase much more subtle.

After a month second toner is necessary to counteract yellow or brassy tones that can develop over time.

This is a gradual process, especially for those who have been colouring their hair for 10, 15, or even 20 years. If it takes over a year to transition away from traditional colouring, that’s a significant achievement.

Before beginning, be realistic, patient, and trust your hairstylist. Consistency and patience are essential for a natural, harmonious grey transition.

It’s a little darker than her actual gray so she will have to come back. He should’ve worked highlights with the lighter grey.
