The US military carried out limited strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday, three US officials told CNN, characterizing the action as defensive in nature and meant to protect US assets in the region.

One official said the US attack came in response to Iran firing at a US aircraft. David Crowley has been elected Wisconsin’s first Black governor, defeating Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany, a Trump ally who conceded Tuesday night. Crowley, 40, grew up on Milwaukee’s north side in one of the country’s poorest neighborhoods and was evicted three times as a kid. He became a community organizer, won a seat in the state Legislature at 30, and was elected Milwaukee County executive in 2020. His road to the governor’s office was not easy. He dropped out of the race in July, then jumped back in at Gov. Tony Evers’ urging and narrowly won the Democratic primary in August. He will replace Evers, who chose to retire instead of seeking a third term.
