Tytan and Notty, paying their morning respects to Maxwell! Tytan spent a bit more time with his elder, perhaps wondering how a little black rhino like him grows to be so stately and impressive. Because Max is blind, he has a forever home with us. Letting him roam free would be incredibly risky — Nairobi National Park is home to many wild black rhinos, who wouldn’t take kindly to a competitor lumbering into their territory. Instead, Max has his own spacious-and-secure grounds to lord over. Black rhinos are as solitary as they are territorial, so this arrangement suits him well. He enjoys his morning visitors, Keepers, and the wild warthogs who filter through, but is otherwise very content with his own company. Because young Tyran will eventually be rewilded, we wouldn’t want to encourage or facilitate an overfamiliar relationship between the pair, as that wouldn’t serve him in his wild life. But for now, these little tête-à-têtes do no harm. (Notty the zebra, meanwhile, is just along for the ride!) — At 20 years old, Maxwell is the oldest orphaned rhino in our care. Because he is blind and couldn’t survive in the wild, he has a forever home with us. Read more about Max and support him through an adoption: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/maxwell At just 21 months old, Tytan is the youngest rhino on our care. His mother died in a tragic accident, leaving him orphaned. This will surely win him the seat lol

Today is Election Day and every vote counts. Democracy doesn’t work as well as it should because voter turnout is not as high as it should be. Voter apathy means that deep-pocketed and influential forces can wield more influence within the system. Not participating makes this dynamic worse. Our system is far from perfect, but it will be greatly improved if we had 100% voter turnout. For anyone who feels that their needs or ideals are not met within the system, the only choice is to get more involved, because though it may work slowly and not deliver everything one wants, democracy is the mechanism to shape the systems of our society. If you need help voting, visit VOTE.org for resources to ensure your voice is heard in this important election. -Shepard
