Last of the Boardroom Show build photos, I swear.
Routing into foam is a lot easier than wood, primarily because you don't have to take several incremental passes to reach the desired depth (more passes means more chances of veering outside your line); you just set your final depth and watch the bit cut through the foam like a hot knife through butter.
But, you're routing into a shaped blank and I don't have any extras of those lying around, unlike the buckets of scrap wood I'm constantly tripping over in my shop. So I still had only one shot to get it right. Thankfully, I had lots of scrap foam to practice on and develop a technique.
In hindsight, I should have built 1 or 2 protoypes to iron out the wrinkles but I think those wrinkles actually added to the aesthetic of the build (at least that's what I'm telling myself). Nevertheless, I'm inspired to take another swing in the new year. Similar but different inlay design and hopefully a better outcome, given the lessons learned.
