The first 30 days in a new home matter more than most people realize. Here’s what I recommend every buyer do right away — no matter the price point.
Start by rekeying every lock and changing your garage code. You’d be shocked how many people still have access to old codes and keys years later.
Next, replace all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and check their expiration dates (yes — they do expire!). Safety first, always.
Have your HVAC serviced and swap out every air filter. It’s one of the quickest ways to boost efficiency and see how well the home was maintained. While you’re at it, get your air ducts cleaned — especially if anyone in your home has allergies.
Review your inspection report, create a priority list of repairs, and start scheduling them.
And finally: take full photos and videos of the entire house before moving in. If you ever need them for insurance, you’ll be grateful you have a full record.
