Thursday in Kyoto we visited the Fushimi Inari Shrine: thousands of orange torii gates, with a network of trails up to a summit. We had a delicious ramen lunch with a very gracious server at a restaurant called Zen. Miles suggested a chopstick making workshop at @hashilab_kyoto that we all really enjoyed. Plus we have a great souvenir! We ended the night at Kyoto Tower

Hello, November! ✨💛
After nearly a year of working on it, the longest it’s ever taken me to finish a painting by far, I’m so proud to present you my latest painting, Kankakee, 1938. Here we see a train of the New York Central passing through Kankakee, Illinois. So why did it take me a year to work on? For the best reasons. I met the woman of my dreams, unfortunately she lives across the pond so we spent every free minute I had FaceTiming, getting to know each other and falling in love. Then I took up a second job with Uber because I reckon, being unmarried, living by myself, that I should take this season of my life as an opportunity to make some good money because I refuse to work more hours than I have to when I’m married. Then my now fiancée came to America for the summer, and finally I was able to paint on Sundays because we’d spend all day creating together. You should check out @aroundtheyeardiy . As a creative, I can’t drive home what a difference it makes to be with a fellow creative, we understand how important how sacred each other’s creating time is. All this to say, this took me a year to make and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. With me becoming Catholic and meeting the girl of my dreams just two weeks after I started working on this painting, I can say: This painting was worked on during the most important and transformative time of my life. I hope you all enjoy!
In December 2013, police in Salem, Oregon arrested a 37-year-old man after he was allegedly caught masturbating inside a bar while high on meth. Andrew Frey had already been causing chaos around town with a string of erratic outbursts before he ended up at Iggy’s Bar & Grill. When police arrived, he fought them so hard that it took more than a dozen officers and a taser to bring him down. Frey later told authorities he had taken meth the day before and didn’t remember any of it.
