Story spoilers: This girl, Marnie, grew up with wealth and privilege but her parents did not offer any kind of real love or affection, leaving her in the care of abusive maids while they drank and partied. One of Marnie's only friends in the world was a boy named Kazuhiko, who she eventually married and had one daughter named Emily. However, Kazuhiko died and Marnie had herself committed to cope with the loss. Her daughter, who was also coping with the loss and feeling abandoned by her mother, never spoke to her again. Emily left Marnie to be with her boyfriend and had one child together, Anna. Emily and her boyfriend both died in a motorcycle accident, leaving Anna in the care of Marnie, who died not long afterward and had Anna placed in foster care.
