Fall 2025 was the fortieth issue of the Apple Valley Review. I have been so grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from contributors and readers from around the world over the past twenty years. As a small gesture of thanks to everyone on the e-mail list for the journal, I held a random drawing for a copy of one of my favorite books I’ve read over the past couple of years.
The Anthropologists, a meditative novel by Ayşegül Savaş (Bloomsbury USA, 2024):
"On the phone, my grandmother asked me if I had planted anything in our window boxes. She always phoned too early, when I was barely out of bed, forgetting about the time difference. She would begin each call with something she had thought of during the night."
There were so many entries for the drawing that I decided to give away two copies instead of just one. The drawing ended on November 30, 2025, and earlier today, I mailed these books to the two people whose names were selected.
If you would like to purchase a copy of this book for yourself, please consider buying from your local independent bookstore or buying online from one of the many independent bookshops that fulfill mail orders. Happy reading!
